Vacationing in the Fall

My favourite time of the year is the fall, especially if we are lucky enough to have an Indian Summer. According to Environment Canada, the rest of September and October are going to be seasonally high.

Many people are finding the beauty of taking their vacations in the fall. I think as we get older, we tend to not like the heat of the summer as much, I know I hate the humidity of August.

That means warm sunny days for long walks taking in the breathtaking colours and cooling off for sleeping at night. Swimming is also not out of the question either. Our lake is small and the water temperature has been warm this summer.

I love lighting a fire in the outdoor fire grill, sipping a glass of wine, starring up at the stars and on the really special nights the still sounds of the lake shattered by the haunting cry of the loon.

Our lake has two pairs of adult loons, we are very lucky that they come back every year.

Another reason to love the lake in the fall is that the lake is not as populated and there are far fewer boats to have to listen to. I know that boats have their place but I prefer less noise from the boats and more sounds of the wildlife. You can peddelo around our lake in about an hour and it is the perfect way to just leave any stresses from everyday life behind.

Our birdfeeder draws an abundance of bird varieties. At this time of the year we are seeing grossbeaks, bluejays, woodpeckers. We spotted a new variety which my husband and I are trying to identify, we love to pour over the numerous bird resources that we have at the cottage.

Fall is sweater time, the smell of work burning stoves, magnificant fall colours, warm days and crisp evenings. It doesn't get much more perfect than that.

Our fall season for this year is fully booked but if you think you might want to make a change and rent during the fall season of 2010, take a look at our rental site: http://www.cottagesincanada.com/roysretreat. I would suggest that you book early, my spring/summer season for 2010 has only two available weeks and I am taking reservations for the fall 2010.

Have a great fall season, no matter if you are on vacation or not. Just get out and smell the wonderful air.
